DAY SHCOOL CURRICULUM
MATH
We follow the American Common Core and British Curriculum for Math.
Our Award-winning Math curriculum finds and fixes missing math skills that are essential for math comprehension.
The primary reason that our online Math curriculum is so effective is because students do not waste time practicing material they have already mastered. Instead, we target areas where students are struggling and allow students to progress immediately once mastery is achieved.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE ART (ELA)
The skills and knowledge captured in our ELA/literacy standards are designed to prepare students for life outside the classroom. They include critical-thinking skills and the ability to closely and attentively read texts in a way that will help them understand and enjoy complex works of literature. Students will learn to use cogent reasoning and evidence collection skills that are essential for success in college, career, and life. The standards also lay out a vision of what it means to be a literate person who is prepared for success in the 21st century.
EARLY/INFORMATIONAL READING (Book Club)
Students start by building words with letters and sounds. Then, they see, hear, and interact with letters and words, allowing ample practice to strengthen their reading and phonics skills.
Our LIVE Book Reading Classes provide engaging activities to enhance reading proficiency. Our integrated E-library (with access to over 40,000 books), quizzes and progress monitoring support balanced literacy models.
WRITING
Our writing workshop makes writing fun and easy. Bite-sized lessons break down writing assignments into simple steps, allowing students to focus on and improve every aspect of their writing. Direct instruction, modeling, and hands-on practice ensure that our students will build strong writing skills at their own pace.
With the help of our teachers, students learn to brainstorm, draft, revise, and edit their own writing projects.
A Well-Rounded Curriculum Writing Workshop gives students the opportunity to do a deep dive into comprehensive projects where all three writing types outlined in the common core: persuasive, expository, and narrative are mastered.
SCIENCE
We provide a comprehensive science curriculum for grades 1-8. We utilize the cognitive skills to encourage students to explore, discover, and think through concepts on their own. Instead of simply memorizing and regurgitating facts, cognitive skill manipulatives push students to develop critical thinking skills, become better problem solvers, and develop a deeper understanding of science content. Cognitive skill manipulatives make learning fun again.
SOCIAL STUDIES
The social studies content in each grade is organized into four major domains:
Geography
History
Government, and
Economics.
Our curriculum covers the National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies published by the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS). In addition to core content, our Social Studies curriculum covers essential social studies skills and practices.
TEST PREP
Our test prep classes are designed for grades 5 and 6 students who wants to write place examinations (common entrance, SAT etc.). This class offers:
● A personalized plan tailored to their strengths and weaknesses based on previous SAT questions.
● A chance to hone their skills with thousands of practice questions, hints, and video lessons
● A personalized practice schedule to get reminders for when to practice
● Expert tips and strategies for the test.
GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP
This time demands that education is intentional in nurturing global competence... so that our kids are informed, empathetic, and effective in shaping their future in changing times.
Through our GCLA Harvard Global Citizenship Curriculum we teach:
● All people have rights, and that freedom and equality are important principles on which societies can be organized.
● Education should be aligned with the aspiration of building a world that respects those rights
● That there is a shared humanity they have with their fellow students, children around them, and all persons around the world.
● Students to be aware, informed and curious about the world and how it works. We could not be more excited about the work we are able to do, what we know we will accomplish, and the impact it will have on the world.
